Through centuries of shifting sands,
From candlelight to crowded lands,
The human heart has stayed the same,
Its silent cries, its endless shame.
They felt the weight of sin and dust,
We speed along, yet still we trust
In fleeting hopes, in dreams that fade,
In peace we seek, in fears we've made.
They sat in huts, we race through lights,
Both tortured by the restless nights.
Their grief was ours, their tears we know,
The ache of loss, the heavy woe.
The years roll on, but we remain
Still chased by death, still marked by pain.
The need for love, the cry for grace
Is written deep in every face.
God called His Son to bear our chains,
To cleanse our hearts, to soothe our pains.
He sent His peace, His light to shine
In hearts once dark, in souls confined.
And though the world around may shift,
Our inward need, our one true gift,
Is Him, who calms our deepest fears,
Who heals our wounds, who wipes our tears.
For time may change the world outside,
But in our hearts, we cannot hide
The longing for the same sweet peace
That Jesus brought, our soul's release.
As years go by, the truth remains,
The more things change, the same refrain:
We need the Savior, just as they,
To guide us through this fleeting day.
