For whom shall I dress on this bright new day?
I peek in my closet, what’s on display?
What does the calendar have in store?
What will the weather bring to my door?
I check my planner to see what’s near,
To make sure my mood is crystal clear.
Today I’ll dress in my Sunday’s accord,
A smile on my face, never feeling short.
In church, I carry my burdens so wide,
But I know I’m not alone in this tide.
Complain with a grin, God hears my plea,
I feel relief, my soul set free.
You ask why my face shows such gloom,
Monday brings troubles, no joy in the room.
Week by week, I bear this weight,
Work hard, eat less, and never be late.
My certificates gather dust on the shelf,
I’m saddened, trapped, can’t contain myself.
Today I feel anger, deep in my core,
Tuesday reminds me of COVID’s lore.
Freedom has come, but what a cost,
My own brother’s love now seems lost.
Our forefathers bled for this sacred land,
Now we’re bound by another’s hand.
Wednesday I fix and fasten everything tight,
No excuses, I must get it right.
The kids need food, my wife a dress,
And mother calls about the neighbor’s distress.
I work hard, for wit isn’t enough,
Push forward, keep moving, even when rough.
Thursday brings joy, light in the air,
I laugh again, feel free from care.
It’s my lucky day, or so I say,
Stress-free, I want to feel joy today.
Don’t steal this day, it feels so real,
I cling to the happiness, it’s all I feel.
Friday brings cash, it’s payday again,
But is it ever enough, forever then?
At least I can make my wife’s smile wide,
Heaven holds riches, with nothing to hide.
My efforts here may not always pay,
But I know up above, my reward will stay.
Saturday’s a day of riddles and toil,
Weddings and funerals, on the same church soil.
Life and death, in circles they spin,
Tomorrow I’ll forgive, confess all sin.
Each week turns round and begins anew,
But I stand firm, it’s my way through.
